Tohoku Volunteer Trip.

Hey guys,

I went to Kesennuma/Minami Sanriku in Tohoku which is the devastated area by Tsunami when East Japan Great Earthquake occurred.

This was a 1 night 2days volunteer tour organized by my friends. 22 of us took a minibus to help reconstruct the devastated area, and to do some Hanami too for fun (although there was almost no cherry blossoms in Tohoku yet…).

Our bus.

Hanami (aka normal picnic lol).

It's all cleared up now.

At volunteer center.

おでってさ来ました! お手伝いに来ました!(Came here to help) in 東北弁(Tohoku dialect).

Inside volunteer center.

Where we worked.

We worked the field.

Our team.

Debris.

Although this area has been mostly cleared up, there is a long way to go.

Tohoku definitely needs more volunteers. Please go help if you have a chance.

About Shinji

Hey guys. I lived in Japan for 25 years then came to the US 5 years ago for grad school (Chemistry). But honestly, I would say I was always more interested in studying English and explore foreign cultures. I have been a huge fan of American music probably because of the influence from my parents. I spent a lot of my time just listening to it (and also playing it a bit haha). And then I got into seriously studying English. So I think I can give you some advice on how to study foreign languages. Also, I can answer some of your questions about Japanese and Japanese culture.
