So our lovely friends from Capcom have revealed the next installment of the Resident Evil series the game. It will be released onto the market on November 20, 2012. Called Biohazard in Japan (バイオハザード Baiohazādo), This franchise that has spawned a bland, uninspiring great Hollywood franchise which also will be coming out with it’s sixth movie later this year.
Ironically – or coincidentally the game takes place in 2012, right when the world is destined to “end” (let’s hope it doesn’t). The main protagonists so far are series veterans Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield who have been solo protagonists in Resident Evil 4 and 5 respectively. This is the first game that will feature at least two main characters of the Resident Evil franchise.
I have only briefly played Resident Evil 4 and I died rather quickly – but then again I don’t have great video gaming skills. I dressed up as Leon for two Halloweens, so I’ve gotten myself acquainted with the characters of the series. Should be something cool to look forward to.
For me personally, the series’s strong point is it’s storyline and how relevant it is to the “real” world. A multi-national corporation run by a selected few, greedy, egoistic, and powerful humans unleashes a biochemical agent (marketed as a life-saving drug) on an American city to “test it out”. Thus begins the fight between good and evil; a few dedicated individuals sacrificing their personal and “normal” lives to fight a rogue entity though defeated, has access to legions of money, power, and geopolitical connections.
Till next time!
