What is your favorite Anime?
By Andrew

What is my favorite anime?

I’m not a big anime fan and my exposure is limited to mainly one episode here and there. However, I will say that the best anime that I have seen and connect with on a personal scale has been Full Metal Panic.

FMP as it is known went for 3 seasons. There is some argument that its second season doesn’t count because its story arc was different but in the end so long as the characters stay true to themselves I’m cool with it.

What drew me to FMP was the main character Sousuke Sagara (相良 宗介 Sagara Sōsuke). I guess at the time when I first saw FMP his personality reminded me of myself a little bit: stiff, overprotective, social awkward, and romantically challenged. Yet if you put him into a war mech he’ll take out a whole army by himself!

Check this out when you have time. Meanwhile, let us know what is your favorite anime is and why. We look forward to hearing your responses!

The Pegasus Saint Kouga must defeat the cosmic evil god Mars who is plotting to create a new world order by capturing the goddess Athena. Continue reading

Martial Arts in Anime
By Andrew

I recently ran into a clip on Youtube detailing a fight between an Aikido master and a boxer/wrestler. I did some digging and found out it is from the anime Baki the Grappler.

Further digging revealed that it wasn’t exactly the shining example of what anime is supposed to be. I believe one review site called it “[the star example] of anime mediocrity”. Ouch.

I’m not a big anime fan – the only anime I really fell in love with was Full Metal Panic (mainly because it was the only anime that I watched extensively), so my anime-knowledge is lacking. But I must say the fight scenes are interesting.

Having training in Aikido for a couple of years now, I fight it interesting how Aikido might show up in a competition setting. Here’s one scene from the anime that caught my attention.

What are your guys’ view of Baki the Grappler? Is there any other anime out there that have great fight scenes?
