Saint Seiya Restarts After 23 Years

Kurumada Masami’s original work, Saint Seiya, which ran as an anime on TV Asahi from 1986-89, is returning to TV after almost a quarter century, as the new series “Saint Seiya Ω (Omega)”, set to air from April (Sundays at 18:30) once again on TV Asahi. The Pegasus Saint Kouga must defeat the cosmic evil god Mars who is plotting to create a new world order by capturing the goddess Athena.
The original manga was serialized in Shonen Jump from December 1985 and sold over 20,000,000 copies total. The TV series had 114 episodes, and ran from 1986 with an average rating of 9.4%, and highest of 13.2%. It had also been broadcast in over 50 countries.
The protagonist of the new series, Kouga, is a 13 year old teenager, who has been raised from childhood by Athena (also known as Kido Saori), and wears the same Pegasus Bronze Cloth as Seiya, and carries on Seiya’s special technique, the Pegasus Meteor Fist.
The cloths have been updated with a more modern design, and the new Aquila Saint, Yuna, will also feature, along with Seiya as one of the legendary Gold Saints from the 1st episode. Mr. Kurumada has raised hopes, saying “This looks to be the birth of a new never before-seen Saint Seiya world!”

Just thought I’d throw up a translation of a cool article I saw, even though I saw it a month late lol. So Seiya and Kenshin are coming back soon, exciting news for the shonen in us all! Btw Kouga’s kanji mean Bright Fang – Seiya’s meant Sacred Arrow, and Tenma’s meant Heaven’s Horse. If you haven’t checked out Saint Seiya (or even better imo, Teshirogi’s Lost Canvas) it’s a really classic series, that has a lot of classic moments. And hopefully this series can tide us over while we wait to find out what happened to the Zeus arc or the end of Next Dimension haha.
